Electronic Forensic Intern

Location: Sri Lanka.  Working remotely within the country.

Minimum Volunteer Contract: Two years

Volunteer hours per month: Approximately 15-20 hours, at a time suitable to the Intern

Minimum age: 18

Required experience: Basic computer hardware knowledge.  Training will be provided.

 

DESCRIPTION

The Electronic Forensic Intern will be a volunteer with the TUSKS (Tactical Universal Surveillance Knowledge-based System) team which investigates wildlife crime.  The TUSKS team works with other Non-Government Organizations around the world, international law enforcement agencies, investigators, and specialists to fight wildlife crime.

The selected intern will work remotely with a secure connection by himself/herself most of the time, but will also work together with other forensic investigative specialists located in different parts of the world on investigations.  The intern will access electronic devices such as cell phones, computers, GPS devices, drones, storage devices, and cameras both physically and remotely in any part of the world and conduct an investigation

The selected intern will receive training in specialized law enforcement software where analysis and investigations will be conducted.  Due to the cost and time of extensive training involved, the selected candidate will be required to sign a two-year contract. After completion of two years, the intern will be provided with a letter of training and work activities performed.

 

THE CANDIDATE WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The candidate we are looking for should be able to remain with us during the mandatory period required where he/she will obtain valuable training free of charge along with work experience.  The candidate should have an investigative mind and the knowledge to disassemble and remove internal parts of a computer, or direct a designated person to do so, with clear verbal instructions via phone.  He/she should have the knowledge of securing a cell phone or other electronic device into a computer for investigative analysis.

The training provided within two years would be very impressive on a CV as work experience for future employment.

 

The ELECTRONIC FORENSICS INTERN position is suitable for a male or female candidate with basic knowledge of computer hardware and who would like to receive free two years of training in some of the worlds best computer and cell phone analysis and investigative software used by law enforcement personnel around the world.  The candidate would have to sign a contract to volunteer with us for a minimum of two years and gain work experience investigating wildlife crime remotely, and by analyzing electronic devices used by suspects.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • The knowledge to identify the following parts of a computer:  Internal Hard Drive, memory, battery, USB ports, HDMI port, any peripherals attached to the computer, and external wiring

  • The knowledge to install and remove SIM card(s), and any external devices connected to a cell phone

  • The ability to connect electronic devices to a router or similar device

  • The knowledge to re-install software, with instructions provided

  • A good knowledge of English (both written and verbal) to communicate and work with partners overseas and to complete training

  • The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity when dealing with wildlife crime investigations

 

 

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE(S) WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWI

 

  • Undergo a strict criminal background check

  • Produce a police clearance letter

  • Complete an online skills and language test

  • Pass a psychological test

  • Pass a final online interview

  • Participate in online training (remotely, at a time suitable to you) to be able to use specialized electronic investigative software

  • Be assigned ongoing investigations to analyze various electronic devices

  • When necessary, coordinate and work with our overseas partners and wildlife investigators

  • Monitor tracking devices when deployed in a wildlife crime investigation

  • Write and present a report on your analysis

  • When needed, assist Investigative Analysts on social media and online investigations

  • Use various methods of remote access to obtain data for investigation

  • When needed, assist law enforcement, Customs, and wildlife officers on electronic device analysis

  • Ensure intelligence and investigation information held in the TUSKS system is clearly organized, accessible, and secure.
